Department of Science and Humanities has started its journey since 19 April 1998 with the inception of MIST. From the beginning, this department has always been playing a pivotal role in laying the foundation of science and humanities for the potential engineers. This department basically provides the relevant fundamental undergraduate courses required for engineering education. Beside undergraduate program, M. Phil program in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry is being offered since October 2014 session.
The mission of Department of Science and Humanities is derived from the vision of MIST:
Department of Science and Humanities possesses highly qualified and self-motivated faculty members to carry out quality education and research work to meet the SDG’s in education.
Physics and Chemistry laboratory of this institution are placed under the direct supervision of Department of Science and Humanities to impart the effective basic elementary knowledge to the students of various engineering discipline on the sessional subjects. A digital language laboratory is going to be installed shortly in order to prepare the students effective in communication skill.
Research is an integral part of the Department of Science and Humanities. It is inculcated in the teaching ethos. As there are scopes for higher studies in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics students and faculty members are encouraged to engage in innovative projects. The department is enriched with 15 PhD holder faculties. Every year a good number of research articles are published in international/national journals. Overall, the research endeavors by the faculty members of the department have produced over 112 journal publications, 89 conference papers and 6 published books.
VIEW PUBLICATIONSDepartment of Science and Humanities organizes different extra-curricular activities for flourishing students’ mental arena and also to develop the soft skills with a view to prepare them for the challenge of future career.
